Impact Projects
The Triangle region is one of the fastest growing areas in North Carolina, adding approximately 300 new residents each day. There is an urgent need for stewardship of our remaining natural areas, and local environmental organizations depend on dedicated volunteers to carry out their missions.
A key feature of the Certified Master Naturalist Volunteer program are the Impact Projects participants develop. These projects integrate course concepts and benefit one of the Partner Organizations, challenging program participants to answer the question…
What impact can I make on our environment?
Program participants will work individually, or in teams, to develop and complete an Impact Project, which is a requirement for certification.
Program Participants will identify their project, assemble their team (if appropriate) and submit their Impact Project outline in February 2024.
Examples
The Partner Organizations have identified areas where Master Naturalists can help, some examples include:
- Conduct species inventories in nature preserves

- Recruit sites to become bird friendly habitats
- Reduce and prevent litter
- Remove invasive species from sensitive areas
- Support Citizen Science projects
